Doctoral Degrees

The Ying Wu College of Computing has three doctoral programs to offer students who plan to make research and higher academics their career path. 

Programs

The Ph.D.'s in Computer Science, Data Science and Information Systems provide the theoretical foundations and application areas in computing that are in the forefront of the computing domain.

Computer Science

Ph.D. in Computer Science. The program in Computer Science is designed to produce  researchers and academic scholars  who  work in advanced domains of the Computer Science field , such as Biomedical Informatics, Computer Algorithms and Theory of Computing, Computer Systems, and Parallel and Distributed Processing, Databases, Data Mining, and Knowledge-Based Engineering, Image Processing and Computer Graphics, Networking and Security, Software Engineering, Systems Analysis, Simulation and Modeling.

Data Science

Ph.D. in Data Science. The program in Data Science prepares candidates with the skills, knowledge, and professional training that will enable them to pursue roles as data science leaders, including, but not limited to, data scientist, data analyst, data engineer, data miner, and academic data science researcher in a broad range of industrial sectors, startups, academia, and government institutions. The primary goal of the PhD degree in Data Science is to educate students who have the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue competitive professional and academic careers, swiftly advancing to leadership positions and to contribute to the creation of novel insights and knowledge in the field.

Information Systems

Ph.D. in Information Systems. The program in Information Systems is designed to produce scholars who possess a commanding knowledge of the nature of Information Systems, applications of and research on Information Systems, and the supporting technology in Computer Science.

The program seeks to develop individuals who can expand both the practice and theory of information systems for complex applications and/or organizational environments. It deals with integrated information, computer and communication systems that support and augment individuals and groups in any field of application: management, business, engineering and manufacturing, health and medicine, education, social sciences, arts and humanities, virtual/augmented reality, etc.
